As a refresher, SoulCycle and ClassPass were both all the rage in the mid-2010s.
But there was a gulf between the studio jumpers of ClassPass and the mystical SoulCycle devotees.
At the time, nearly every fitness studio was on ClassPass, and SoulCycle was the notable exception.
It is not an understatement to say that SoulCycle was truly infamous for not being on ClassPass.

Now, youll be able to book a SoulCycle ride for between 10 and 15 ClassPass credits.
Each credit costs about $2 to $3 (depending on your exact ClassPass subscription).
That price tag is not insignificantly more expensive than other cycling classes.
So how did we get here?

First of all, ClassPass has seriously evolved in recent years.
Next up, of course, was the pandemic.
Just like SoulCycle, it had teachers with cult followings, transcendent playlists, and elitist cache.
Most importantly of all, it had something SoulCycle didnt have: The convenience of cycling from home.
(Earlier this year, Equinox wassued for millionsfor not paying that rent.)
Something had to give.
Recently, Equinox declined to provide Well+Good with a comment on the health of its businesses, including SoulCycle.
But the announcements subtext is also the story of how the fitness industry has changed.
